We’re Featured In ‘Captain Phillips’: Can You Hear Us?

A watchful listener — how about them mixed-sensory descriptors? — noticed a certain Boston-based news and culture public radio talk show in the credits of the popular Sony Pictures film, “Captain Phillips.”

The movie, the true-life story of the real Captain Richard Phillips, whose¬†Maersk Alabama container ship was hijacked by Somali Pirates in 2009 and inspired the memoir, “A Captain’s Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs, and Dangerous Days at Sea,” stars Tom Hanks as Phillips and has garnered rave reviews and big box-office returns since its Oct. 11 release.

We’re not taking any credit for the film’s success, but we can applaud the decision to include an audio excerpt of On Point within the film. “On Point With Tom Ashbrook” is noted at the bottom of the credits, along with the crew of the Maersk Alabama and the crew of the USS Truxtun. (We imagine they had ¬†little bit more to do with the filming and logistics than we did, but we’d like to think our 2008 hour on Somalia and piracy was included in a background noise segment of the movie.)

Have you seen the movie? Did you catch the snippet of On Point in the midst of all the piracy? Let us know in the comments below.
