Remember those eleven Russian spies rounded up last year? Turns out that a high-ranking Russian double agent sold them out to the West.

According to reports, a secret military court in Moscow has found Colonel Alexander Poteyev, a one-time senior director in Russia’s foreign intelligence service, guilty in absentia. If Moscow ever gets their hands on him, he faces 25 years in prison.

When he fled the country in June, the 59-year old Poteyev apparently knew that he would never return to his homeland. The court released his final text message to his wife, which read: “”Mary, try to take this calmly: I am leaving not for a short time but forever.”

The summer kerfuffle over the Russian sleeper agents was eventually resolved through a Cold War-style spy swap.

We took a look at the case with Frederick Hitz, a former CIA Inspector-General, and a panel of experts.
